I am not familiar with that Rod, but you’re certainly starting off far better than I did with gear. That is a good thing, a decent rod will help your casting progression a lot.

I am no expert, but any sizeable river that runs into Winni, Newfound or Squam would be a place to start. A sudden temp drop, especially during the nights, and a good pump of rain will help.

Totally agree... tippet needs to be a reflection of the river in addition to the fly size. Fishing a big brawling freestone with less then 4x is silly to me, you just don't have the stopping power...
