Water

I was there Wednesday.

The water was OK - a little worse than last year; nowhere near as bad as 2016 at this time.

Night in ME

This is the Maine general rule.

As you say, there are lots of places in Maine with 'Special Rules'. You really have to check each pond/stream to see if there's a special rule for it.

Didn't work with my nother

'Everyone does it' never worked very well with my mother when I was a kid.

I doubt it would work if some CO decided to enforce the rule today.

Differences

I admit that I donít understand some of the rules in NH.
In Maine you can fish at night. Maine has lots of rules, but prohibiting night fishing isnít one of them.
This other one only applies if...

Way overdue

About every three days I start in Portsmouth and work my way south to Hampton.

So far, no sign of any stripers.

Little rods

I've used a 6' 2 wt. St Croix Imperial for a few years. It's a marginal 2 wt. and is happy with a 1 wt. line. Use a tiny reel and this is about as light as it gets.

RDP's light rods are very good...

Vet discount

At Lowe's I showed my DD214 once. They did an online check and then connected the info to my MyLowes account.

Now I show the MyLowes number (a sticker I put on my phone) and their system...

Even the streams

Some of the streams are also too warm.
Look at the USGS temps and flows for the Wild River:

Boots, etc.

I'd go with Simms boots.
I also have a pair of Korkers that I have no complaints about as long as I use the felt soles. The rubber soles are worthless, dangerous even, in my opinion.

Merrymeeting

I caught chubs and perch, nothing else.

Glad you had fun

I've never had much luck with the Zealand either.
The area around the golf course at the hotel usually is good for some brookies, as you found.

That would depend on whether you want to fish a lake or a stream.
I'm not a real fan of lake fishing, so I'd likely stay with the Ammo.
The upper Pemi can be fun, but the Ammo would offer more...

I'd go with the Ammonoosuc if all you have is a few hours.
It's one river, but with some very different parts. You can choose what kind of fishing you'd like to do.
Up by the Cog Railway, along...

Stripers

They're definitely in.
I haven't had much luck in Hampton Harbor.
Plum Island is good everywhere from what I've heard.
I've had better luck in southern Maine than in NH.
Your NH saltwater...

Ticks & Lyme

How did you know you had it?

I've had it. Just got achy all over.

But I've had false alarms, too.

What were your symptoms?

Too true

You couldn't be more right.

Yesterday I even had them under my socks, socks that had an elastic top.

Tippet

I'm in the 'as heavy as you can get away with' camp.
Heavier tippet makes it easier to land and release fish quickly.
I'll use really light tippet if that's the only thing that works, but only then.

Rain

I love fishing in the rain.
In the mountains watch for lots of water suddenly, and thunder/lightning.
Any type of fly seems to work, not just nymphs.
Go for it.

Some of the rivers look close to normal.
The Saco looks very low. I hope that's because most of the snow hasn't melted yet.

Season

In southern NH and ME, the season was pretty short. I commented back in April that the water was low because of the lack of snow melt. I pretty much gave up on southern fishing by early May.

Even...

Lamprey

The part of the Lamprey that runs though my town is mostly not moving. Right after a rain there's a little flow, but it looks more like a long pond otherwise.

East Branch

I tried it about three weeks ago. Water, what there was of it, was cold enough, but no fish.

Fished below the Rt 112 bridge, and then farther down towards town - nada.
