Here's a sweet camp, smaller than a dorm room but complete with fly tying bench! Cramer approved!

Depends what I had brought back to the hotel from the bar

Yeah, but drinking a 40oz like that, I am surprised you didn't sleep in a cardboard box

Default Sporting Camps

I have spent time at two of Maines' sporting camps over the years and loved every minute of it. Rustic log cabins, gas lights, woodstove, meals served "family style" in the dining hall, and great fishing to go along with the experience. For the past few years I have been going to the Adirondacks for my trips. We have tried the KOA Campground cabins and also have rented larger "cabins" (read small house) and although these make a great "home away from home", nothing can beat the ambiance of a Maine Sporting Camp.

The fishing 'camps' I've seen out here in the Sierra's are more like dude ranches and the costs are pretty crazy.

That being said, if I could do a trip with my son at a classic style camp, it would be a great memory.

Default Camp in the mountains

Going to camp to me is to a little place on a pond in the mountains that has been in the family for over fifty years. I consider myself a lucky man to be a short drive from both the Androscoggin and the Connecticut. Its semi-rustic with a shower and toilet with a wood stove and electric range. The boathouse is on a lake with both bass and three trout species. I piss and moan about the upkeep and taxes but I can't wait to get up there for the may hatches. The alder flys in june is a New hampshire classic and those half day drifts down the Conn. with those big browns hitting caddis just off the bank are great days to be alive. Going up to the camp is great northen new england tradition born half a century ago when the commom man could afford a place by the lake. The high price of taxes and real estate has pushed this beyond the reach of most of us. Too few of our children will learn the sporting life at the family camp.

I love fishing camps. I have spent my fair share of days in a tent, under a tarp, or simply sleeping in a truck. But I have to say there is nothing more enjoyable than coming back to a nice camp with the chance to take a nice warm shower and enjoy a good meal.
Maine still has some of the old real sporting lodges left, although they are dissapearing all the time. I guess I would rather sleep on the ground with a campfire in the woods than a yuppee hotel. But as long as there are real sporting camps still out there, I will try to support them and certainly enjoy staying there.
It does dissapoint me to see what has happened to most of Pittsburg NH, But I still enjoy going and there are still a few spots there that I never see anyone else go.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a camp up in Milan, a short drive away from the Andro, this past october. The camp was built by a coworker, and is as rustic as they come. Gas fired lights, no electricty and wood stove. We fished all morning, duck hunted the late afternoon, and was incredible. Nothing like eating that days catch, a nice rainbow trout filet and duck "a la 12 gauge" One the other hand, it never felt so good to take a shower after being "at camp" for four days!!

It is hard to imagine how nice it is not to need to crap in a bucket and never going a day without a shower until you loose the ability to do it for a few days.

That was the 2nd and 3rd things we did was a privy and an outdoor shower.
