Default Alder fly hatch on the Andro

Does anyone have a handle on when this hatch usually takes place? I have heard that it is a great time to fish the upper Androscoggin.

I would suspect it is on right now and will be for a bit.

Indeed, this is the time to be there and if you can time it right, it is a very nice hatch. Unfortunately, that river is best fished at 2000 cfs plus or minus 500 cfs, and right now it is running at 8700 cfs, which is a problem... this water is very inappropriately timed...

Default alder hatch

I was at another river maybe 2+ hours south of the Andro and I saw a ton of these bugs on the leaves. Big black caddis looking bugs with yellow stripes on the wings. I managed some thick brookies on a #16 elk hair caddis. Good times...

Alders are on from mid june to mid july and I've had good fishing on many of the northern streams this time of year. Not just the Androscoggin.

I was up in Errol at the Andro over the weekend. River is blown out. Flows are above 8,000 and the Alders were non-existant. They will come out soon, but river is not fishable in any fashion.
