The Monadnock Region of our State is dominated by two features; Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey and the Ashuelot River. The Ashuelot is probably one of the most overlooked trout rivers in the State of New Hampshire. This river is stocked quite heavily by the state as a "put & take" fishery, but reports from fishermen continue to come in about the holdovers of unusual size take from it's flow. Along with the Ashuelot the Cold River, flowing out of Warren Lake in Alstead is also good Trout water. Still water offers good fishing as well. Spofford Lake in Chesterfield , Stone Pond in Marlborough, and Laurel Lake in Fitswilliams offer good Trout water for the still water fisherman. Of course, there are lots and lots of small ponds that dot the map in this region that offer great cold and warm water fishing for the flyroder.
