Nights are cooler and the water temps are beginning to drop. Fishing on the lower Connecticut (Stewartstown to Columbia) has been very good. Action in the trophy stretch has slowed some (I think the fish are just sick of looking at us) but good luck has had directly below the dam. Water flows are good (200 cfs) so start looking for fish in the Step Pools and the Skating Rink. As the water temps cool, keep an eye out for salmon entering the river on their spawning run in the river near Magalloway Rd Bridge. That section of river is important spawning area for our wild landlocks. Fishing has also been good on the river below Pittsburg in the Clarksville / Stewartstown areas.
Flies to try: Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis, CDC Caddis, Adams, Adams Irresistible, Hornbeberg, Beadhead Pheasant Tail , Micro Stone, Prince, Copper Johns, BH Prince, Hatching Pupas, San Juan Worms, Wooly Buggers, Magog Smelts, Black Ghosts.
