While in Quebec last summer, I landed a 38" Pike on my 5 weight Orvis T-3. It took a while, but it worked.
As others have said .... it is difficult to hurl a big fly around on a smaller line.
And, of course, you'll need the wire leader. I was not fishing with wire, because I was not targeting Pike. I was pretty angry when I realized that big pike was not a salmon or brookie. I had quite a few fish break off my line up there ... I figure they were all Pike.
Anyhow ... that's my 'Fish Story' ... 38" Northern Pike, in Northern Quebec, on a 5 weight Orvis Rod, with a 1x mono leader.
