Hello,

Maybe some have read my post about my terrible weekend where I fell on some rocks and broke my rod in half.:x :x Well, I happened to jump into an auction for a Gold Cup 9wt. and I got it for a very very very good price. I am having it shipped 2-day so I can have it for the weekend. I am pretty excited, but I don't know anything about these rods. It retails for $169 and change, 9ft. 9wt, 2 piece. Anyone ever use any of there stuff? I am thinking this can hold me over until Christmas, when I hopefully will get something better. Assuming it gets here on time, anyone want to go fishing this weekend!

Thanks

Steve H.

I've never fished with a Bass Pro Shop fly rod, but I'm sure it's perfectly adequate (although I'm not exactly sure who manufactures for BPS). There's a lot of decent fly rods out there that get the job done for under $200. I spend a lot of time fishing with a very inexpensive Redington rod that I like a lot. I also have an expensive Sage in the same line weight that fishes much better, but the Redington is fine and has caught a lot of fish.

I think there have been a lot of technological advancements in the last 10 years or so that have brought the prices down on rods that would have previously cost $400 or more. These rods are also being mass-produced in foreign countries which of course brings the price down. Maybe that's something to consider when you purchase a fly rod or anything else for that matter.
