Hello,

I have been fishing Saltwater almost all year, but I would like to do a little bit more freshwater fishing, including lakes, ponds and rivers/streams. I will be using an Elkhorn 6wt. rod/reel. I believe the rod is a moderate action, but I could be wrong (I am used to fishing a rather fast action 9wt.) It has a Sci Angler floating line on it now which is great, but I really enjoy fishing sub-surface stuff. I was thinking of getting an intermediate, but I don't think that is the greatest idea. I really want to fish streamer flies, I just really like that kind of fishing. I would like to get into trout fishing and possibly take advantage of the Atlantic Salmon fishing in the Merrimack, and then while I am at it, fish for bass, All on this 6wt. So what do you think? Is that possible?

Solid,
Since you talked about fishing streamers for trout and salmon in moving water, I would recomend a sinking tip line. It is easier to cast and mend line than a full sinking line. A full sinking line would be good if you want to fish lakes and ponds, since there is no mending involved. The intermediate line isn't much good in moving water. It doesn't sink fast enough to get the fly down to the bottom before the end of the drift and is impossible to mend line.
Prime streamer season is right around the corner, so get that line spooled up quick!
tight lines,
Gerry
