so I am thinking of trying to do some fishing tomorrow (3-27). I live in Manchester and I would like to go somewhere close. I really have no idea what part of what river/stream to go to where I can access water. I have waders and some black woolly buggers, and also a streamer that is grey with a hint of yellow. There is a small river that I have caught some fish in that is in Pembroke/Allenstown area, it runs right past the golf coarse? I think it is the Contoucook?(sp.) I used ultra light gear a few years ago. anyone know what I am talking about? any advise would be great!

The Contoocock could be good.... The key when fishing in the winter is finding fish and literallaly putting your fly on their nose. Focus on some of the slower deeper runs. It's tough to catch fish this time of year, but it is rewarding...
Solid, I ventured out onto the Exeter River yesterday, over in Fremont. Snow is still pretty deep in some places (seemed like most places.) Shelf ice was also still prohibiting. I did find an accessible spot where the Exeter flows under 111A. For me it was a typical day, a true comedy of errors. Nonetheless, I did find some open, accessible water and I did manage to get a nymph down deep enough to hit a number of very good snags (no fish, however.) Late last week I took a ride up to Allenstown to check out Bear Brook. When I got there, I was surprised with how deep the snow still was, and Bear Brook, itself, was frozen up solid. Well, at least it was where I checked it out near the intersection of Podunk and Lower Rd. I posted my lack of success in the "Fishing Report" forum along with my observations of what I discovered when I visited the Piscataqoug River up in New Boston the same day. I would be very interested in hearing about where you go and what you discover during your outings this Sunday. Good luck!

P.S. If you're heading out to the Allenstwon, Pembroke area, could you have perhaps meant the Suncook River as opposed to the Contoocook?
