LIMITED-EDITION SALMON PRINT AND STAMP SETS FROM FISH AND GAME
CONCORD, N.H. -- A special limited-edition salmon print and collectible set of Atlantic salmon stamps are now available for sale through N.H. Fish and Game, with proceeds to benefit the Merrimack River Anadromous Fish Restoration Program. New Hampshire's Atlantic salmon stamps and prints are sought nationwide by anglers and wildlife art collectors.
The limited-edition print by renowned wildlife artist Arthur Taylor is a tribute to world-class salmon angler Joan Salvato Wulff of Surry, N.H., who with her late husband Lee founded the Wulff School of Fly Fishing in 1979. The lively full-color print, "Joan's Release," portrays Joan Wulff on the Pemigewasset River in spring, releasing an Atlantic salmon. It is printed on archive-quality paper in an edition of 300; each print is signed by the artist. The cost is $85 per print plus $5 total for shipping and handling.
The 5-year series of collector-issue salmon stamps from 2000-2004 features classic salmon fly patterns Jock Scott, Green Highlander, Silver Doctor, Orange Parson and Durham Ranger, with brilliantly colored original artwork by wildlife artist Victor Young. These are the final five salmon stamps that New Hampshire will issue; starting this year, stamp and possession tags are no longer required for brood-stock salmon anglers. (The $11 salmon "permit" is now a simple checkbox on the license application.) Only 50 sets of the number-matched stamps were saved for this special sale. The cost is $50 per set of five stamps; no shipping and handling charge applies.
Salmon permit, stamp and print revenues generated by anglers and collectors are set aside in a special dedicated account strictly for the Merrimack River Anadromous Fishery Restoration Program. This program includes the Merrimack River broodstock Atlantic salmon fishery, the only east-coast fishery of its kind. N.H. Fish and Game will release a total of 1,500 tagged broodstock salmon in 2005 -- about 1,100 this spring and 400 in the fall.
Order forms for the salmon print and salmon stamps, plus color pictures of the items, are available on Fish and Game's website at http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us or call (603) 271-3421 for information.
