Wait till May 1 to make the dates, should have a good idea where the fishing season will stand then. I think I will skip the boat this year and wade somewhere with you guys. I miss that kind of fishing

It looks like sun June 10th has a 7:11 am tide. Fish should be on the bite about 8. Does this sound like a good tide and date?
Solid
04-02-2007, 04:30 PM
Possibly, I think we should give it a little more time before we set anything up. Def. keep that date in mind! Hampton Harbor fishes well on incoming, early A.M. tides.

Great morning though aside from the Nor'easter conditions. I think between the four of us who showed up at Hampton Harbor, we must have landed a few dozen schoolies. Can't wait to do it again!! (Hopefully the weather will be better though!!)

Guys, don't worry about the weather. After talking with Lowwall, we decided that we MUST have a rain date. Last year I fished Joppa and the Mack with Jim C. (Who I havent heard from in a long long time) in his boat. I had a good time, and we were safe but it was very uncomfortable fishing. Getting soaked and bounced around the boat, plus it was cold. Also didn't see anyone after at Browns so that kinda stinks. Looking forward to meeting some new people this year!

Just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone has any interest...
Last year, Lowwall mentioned camping out at the State Park, It never happened, and I am sure this was due to the weather. I was lucky enough to get lots of new camping gear over the holidays and I would love camp. Grill out on a Friday night, fish all day Sat. grill more or whatever. I have never camped there, so I don't know anything about the place. The rain date will hopefully eliminate the weather issue. If anyone has any interest, I will look into it.

I've been asleep on this... sounds like a good time. I'd be up for camping by the bridge. I have a bunch of weddings and bachelor parties on the way in June though, but off the top of my head I think I should be good. I may bring a few of the fish crew along.

I am in but will have to leave by 9AM on the 16th, have a Dance Recital to Attend, those 3yr olds really put on a show.
My Plan is to camp and fish super early , then beat it by 9AM which is about midday for me on a saturday anyway.

It is not ideal but can be done, JUst use weighted flies or beter yet pick up a Sinking Head,
I like Rio pre made tips (About $5 or $6 Bucks). Or Pick up a Spool of T14 and make your own.
Rio , Type 6 DC (6 - 7 ips 17 cm/s) or Type 8 DC (8 - 9 ips 20.3 cm/s) sinking tips.
I have an extra 350Gr but will be gone when you guys get going.

OK, here's my plan for those who don't know what's going on. Lowwall and I are going to be camping at Salisbury State Res. on Fri night. BBQ, drinks and night fishing, anyone can go, according to Lowwall there are plenty of sites available, and they are cheap.
Sat. early am I will be at the South side of the Hampton Harbor Bridge, parking on the right side of the road. I assume Lowwall is going to go as well, I drive a Silver Chevy Silverado, and Lowwall drives a gray Ford F150 with a matching Cap. I will be there @ around 6:00 - 6:30 ish if not earlier.
If you have never been there before, take rt. 101 east to Hampton. At the first stop sign, take a right. Next stop sign another right, this will bring you south on rt. 1a over the bridge, plenty of parking on the right hand side of the road. For better directions use Google maps. PM me if you have any questions!

Just a reminder that is a real PIA to fish the surf without a striping basket. Make or buy one now!
A Dishpan with holes in it strung on with the wading belt you already should be wearing works well.

thank you lowwall for the heads-up on the stripping basket
i got one of the llbean baskets, now i just got to find it and put some drain holes in it
is there anything else that would be helpful for saturday morning's fishing?

Made a stripping basket this weekend, walmart tupperwear bin did the trick. Although it cracked when I went to cut two holes in if for the belt, so I had to use the good ol duct tape. I was told that its possible to insert 200 lb mono pieces coming up vertically from the bottom in order to prevent line tangles. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?
Solid
06-12-2007, 04:14 PM
Then you have to find 200lb mono! Some people use very long (and thick) zip ties and that seems to work, but I think you will be OK with the way it is now. Google stripping basket and you will see what I am talking about with the zip ties. There are a ton of examples out on the web of baskets that people made.

This is something to watch, If this does not weaken By SAT may want to call in a Rain Date. Wading in 4-6ft in a 20MPH wind is not a good time!
Regardless it Will be a weedy Mess Saturday.
"A GALE CENTER OVER GEORGES BANK WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY THROUGH FRI AND SLOWLY WEAKEN WITH TIME. SEAS WILL CLIMB TO 8 TO 12 FT THIS AFTERNOON AND THU ACROSS THE OCEAN WATERS E OF CAPE COD AND NANTUCKET. BY SAT...THE LOW WILL WEAKEN CONSIDERABLY AND LIFT NE TO NEAR NOVA SCOTIA. A SHARP COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH NEW ENGLAND SUN...LIKELY REACHING THE COASTAL WATERS SUN EVENING. "
I Plan on Making the Camping call by the 4AM Forecast Tomorow AM, (They Update 4AM,4PM).

when is the rain date?
Steve H.
06-13-2007, 04:52 PM
While I would want to be tent camping at the Salisbury Reservation in a rainstorm, fishing the next morning couldn't be any more painful than last year. The few of us who toughed it out at Hampton Harbor last year caught good numbers of stripers despite the gale-force winds.
From weather.com:
Jun 15 Friday
More sun than clouds. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 50s.
Jun 16 Saturday
Partly cloudy with a stray thunderstorm. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s.
Jun 17 Sunday
Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 50s.

It is not the Rain that is the problem but High Winds Seas. SAturday AM looks like it will be OK, I Am bailing on Camping / Fishing Friday Night based on the Wind/Waves.
FRI... NE WINDS 10 TO 15 KT...DIMINISHING TO 5 TO 10 KT LATE. SEAS 4 TO 7 FT.
FRI NIGHT... SE WINDS 5 TO 10 KT...BECOMING NW LATE. SEAS 3 TO 5 FT.
SAT... W WINDS AROUND 5 KT...BECOMING SE IN THE LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 TO 4 FT.
So what time Saturday AM, I was planing for 4:00AM at the spot?
Sunrise is Aprox. 5AM these days.

06-14-2007, 07:09 AM
Lowwal, don't worry too much about rough seas. Last year we fished the inner harbor exclusively and never even went on the beach side of the bridge. Despite 25 mph winds and horizontal rain, we all caught fish...several dozen if I remember correctly.
Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else. I'll be parking at the bridge around 4:45.

Sorry I am missing this. Would have been my first time fly fishing the salt. (The striper I tied into last weekend on red brook doesn't count. He had no business being that far upstream. A story best told another time.)
Heading to Baxter on the quest for bluebacks, and will report!
