Can you say posterior tibia tendon surgery? I knew ya could! Going in May 2nd and will be in a cast for 4 to 5 weeks so there goes my May fishing unless I can leech off of you guys and sit in front of a canoe!

Hey Ken
You will balance off my canoe just fine if we can get our schedules to match up for a Monday during that time of your recoup. Let me know if that works for you.

You're coming apart at the seams old man! Next thing you know all your hair will fall out - oh, never mind  However, your shameless plea will probably get you more fishing time than if you were healthy (I'm sure you're playing up the sympathy card at home as well). As long as we can take your canoe, I'll paddle. Make sure that cast is off when the stripers get hot!

Ken-
At least you'll be able to cast! Seems I've come down with a severe case of lateral epicondylitis (better known as tennis elbow) :x Who'd a thunk such a benignly named injury could be as painful as it is! The thing that really bites is it's my casting arm  which also is my money-making (hammer) arm :(
Anyone want to share their techniques on teaching an old man how to cast lefty???? So far, everyone who's seen me try just rolls on the ground laughing....

Amazing...this thread is beginning to sound like "Tales from the Old Folks Home".....And to think I used to make fun of people talking about their ailments
Actually, my orthopaedist told me to use one, so I did. Helped temporarily. My hand surgeon said they cause more problems than they correct. Notably, the band puts pressure on the nerve that runs across the top of your lower arm, causing numbness in the hand. So he gave me a wrist immobilizer that absolutely sucks. It keeps my wrist locked, but the metal shaft makes it almost impossible to hold a hammer, let alone a rod!
Done 6 months of PT...the things just too far gone. The thing that really bites is I think I drove it over the top by doing a 14 hour day of power fishing on the Kennebec last fall! that's when I first noticed the nagging pain.
There is a new treatment that uses ultrasonic shock waves ( kind of like how they break up gall & kidney stones), but the technique is so new that the insurance companies (God love em (insert lone finger salute here)) won't cover the procedure.
So...anyone switched arms in mid-life? :?:

Yes, I'm lucky it isn't my arm but then again I can cast with both arms. I'm hoping the cast comes off before the FFIM conclave.
Tom - thanks and that's certainly an option and Craig - not only will you paddle but you'll have to carry the canoe too! I'll still buy the MGD!

Actually - switching arms is not hard at all. And, in most cases you will find that you will cast better in the long run with the non casting arm b/c that arm has no muscle memory in it. Your brain knows what the arm needs to do correctly and the arm is a new student so to speak. At first you'll look like your little sister trying to throw a football but, after about 20 false casts, you'll start to see a difference...and so on. Before you know it, you'll be attacking the fish from all angles! :D

If the beer is cold I'll do my part. As long as I don't have to carry you too, I'm not that strong! Do we get preffered parking now that you're an invalid?

Thanks PB. I didn't need that vision dancing in my head just before bed! Let the nightmares begin.
