I don't know how many of you are aware that we actually have a new shop opening up in Bedford. Riverstone Outfitters, I think Dan Fitzgerald from Hunters is involved. It's right on 101, next to the Vista plaza (where Wallace Road comes out). I think it opens March 1.

The good thing is I pass it everyday on my way to and from work. The bad thing is my wife knows about it :)

I travel through there quite frequently, and would love to have a shop that close by. If you get more info, post it up here. It would be great to get them involved here.

That's good news. I work in Merrimack and have been "flyshop deprived" since American Anglers closed. I'll have to stop in and check it out when it opens.

When you folks stop in, be sure to let them know where you heard of them. Perhaps they will promote this site. It's O.K. if they don't, but what the heck, it's worth a try. :)

I was told about them from a friend who found out from Dan at the Marlborough show this year. I'll post a "review" once they open.

Gee I have worked in the Manchester area now for over a year. I can' t find one shop.
Before I bought my new waders last year I called a place in Bedford I think.
Most of all the tackle in NH is spin and bait fishing. This is very dissapointing to me. I know theere is a guy in Nashua who deals in specific antique eqipment.
As far as shops go I go to Eldredge Brothers in Cape Neddick or the Post. I live close to them though I would hafte to live in Manchester not having a shope around. I still don't even want to go to Bedford. I jsut see what that place will be like. Atleast when I lived in Downtown Chicago they had a nice Orvis shop there.

New Boston (Hunters) isn't that far from Manchester. The guy in Nashua also makes the Peerless reels. I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone else, I just thought it was a positive thing having a new shop open up. By all means if you live closer to the others or they are more convenient, then go there.

Blake,

You're probably right with regard to full out fly fishing shops in the south eastern part of NH, I don't know for sure hardly ever go into that part of the state. But there are some excellent, full blown fly fishing shop in NH. As already mentioned, there is Hunters in New Boston, but there is also North Country Anglers in Conway, and The Lyme Angler in Hanover, to mention just a few. These shops will compete with anyone out there for depth, breath, and quality of products they carry as well as providing customers with full service stores.

I certainly wouldn't want you to think the state of NH only has "spin fishing" outlets. There are ton's of shops dotted all over the state. There is one thing you're right about . . . . there aren't enough of them! I also live in a deprived area.

No I'm not slamming anyone at all. All I can remember was last year I wanted to buy my Atlantic Salmon stamp. I had to go to Franklin or Hooksett and the fly selections were pittiful and dusty and the rest of the tackle was up to date. Butt they had plenty of spinng gear and worms.
North Country Anglers has done a agreat job and I like it there but its all the way in N.Conway.
There is also one west of FRanklin called Tight Lines Fishing Services and they sell Sage and all sorts of great flies. The guys name is Jon Lockwood he also does Saltwater fishing trips as well as trout.
It is a plus having one in Bedford good luck to them.
What I meant was also Manchester has a population of over 120,000 not including surrounding areas. I would think that I wasn't the only one thinking the same thing. I don't complain too much because mI live close to Eldredge brothers. I have been doing business eith them for a little more than 10 years.
they have one in Newbury Port and Ipswich wich are great shops as well. I will be doing mail order alot more now anyway.
However between manchester and Boston there is not too much to choose from.

Sorry if I came across harsh; didn't mean it that way. Yes, it seems like with the size of Manchester there should be one, but...

I've always shoped at Hunter's and don't believe it's too far from Manchester at all. They know their stuff and are a great batch of guys. Well worth a 30min. drive in my opinion. I'm pretty dissapointed with KTP lately I must say. It's pretty frustrating when you talk to the fishing department and you have to walk them through everything. "OK..on the box it should read W....F......5....F..." etc...

Blake,

You should check out Mountain Road Fly Shop in Raymond. Tom Jutras is the owner and seems to be a real nice guy. He spent an hour or so with me a few weeks ago just shooting the @#% about tying and showed me a few new flies to try and tie. If you're looking for a pretty shop with lots of bells and wistles then this isn't the one. The thing I like about them is that they'll go find something for you if they don't have it. I've been looking for a rod holder for my mt bike and Tom is looking into ordering just for me. They also do a Thursday night tying session. Check them out at mountainrdfly.com

On the road to Pawtuckaway. The fly shop is located on the second floor of the Mt Road Trading Post.

I can't wait till a fly shop opens closer to Nashua. I recently moved here from Ft. Collins, CO where there was three fly shops within 5 minutes of me. Please keep us posted on the status of this!!

Paul,

I'm a remedial tyer so for me it's good. I'm not sure what an advanced tyer would say about the selection. They do continue to get more and more stuff each time I go in and again, my guess is if they don't have it, they'll get it for you.

Ken B

ps..haven't heard back from Dan yet.

I'm just starting out with tying so they'll probabally have what I need. I'll take a ride up there soon.

Not sure. I literally drive by it twice a day to/from work, I haven't seen a "Grand Opening" sign yet, but I am paying attention. I'll post an update on or before Friday if I see any change.

30 minutes, thats not bad, a few years ago I used to drive an hour to go to American Angling in Salem. I thought Dave was a great guy with a good crew on staff. Always pleasant and willing to share fishing stories and very knowledgeable. I was pretty bummed when I heard he shut it down.

I spoke with the owner today (March 2). He said he hopes to be open "in a couple of weeks". And yes, it certainly is a very convenient location.

The latest update from Dan is that he will open the shop on April 1st. He actually has an ad in the paper looking for full & part time employees so if you've always wanted to work at a fly shop - now's your chance!!! :D

There is Tom Jutras new shop in Mountain Road Fly Shop in Raymond. Tom is helpful and active in promoting fly fishing. George Taylor's bait shop on Rt. 9 in Barrington has some tying materials (esp. naturals). It's close to Dover and Durham. Eldridges has a good selection of materials and a knowledgable staff.

Last I knew Dan was set on opening on April 1. Maybe someone in the Manchester/Bedford area can swing by the shop and get an update and tell Dan he has an eager customer base! Sbeausol :?:

RIVERSTONE

Hello all,
This is Dan from Riverstone Outfitters here in Bedford. Sorry I haven't posted info here before on the new shop, didn't really know the discussion was going on here.
I just read the previous postings and they are all correct. I have had to push back the opening date a couple times due to construction, weather, and just plain typing in inventory issues. Lots and lots of stuff to go into the computer system and typing isn't my strong point. Glad everyone is excited about the place; gives me motivation.
Here's the scoop. We will be open about the 15th of this month, we are going to open "softly" first to make sure everything is working correctly and get all the "bugs" out. The majority of the gear will be all set, the tying materials is a huge job so if I waited to get all that stuff in and computerized and out, I might get it open in July. Big, big job there. I will have a fairly good selection to start hopefully, and just keep adding to it all spring long, so please bear with me on that. The tying area, my favorite, is about 300sq ft, so it's going to take a while to fill.
Great to see people are talking about the shop and I will drop you all a note here when it is closer to the date, the 15th, and let you all know if it is a go. Barring any natural disaster, we should hit this one finally.

Thanks for your patients and hope to meet you all.

Squaretail,

You're not missing much. With all the rain the water has been too high to do anything. It's gotta break soon. Hang in there.

It looks like rain all this week, at least up here in the north country, so I'm considering taking a ride down on Saturday to meet the folks at Riverstone and maybe drop off a poster for FFiNH. Might even buy something.
