Favorite landlocked salmon flies

Hi, All~

I know this is a little sketchy, but I figured it's worth a try.

Do you have a favorite streamer to troll or cast? If so, are you willing to tell what it is? I haven't done much salmon fishing with streamers around the ice, but I hope to get out this year. I've read about the gray ghost, 9-3, Joe's smelt, ect. All fine, but do you like one better than the others?

I have had good luck with a Maynard Marvel. Tandem for trolling from my kayak single for casting Good luck. Where in central NH are you?

I'm headed up to Winnisquam tomorrow at 0dark30 to get an early start and see what will happen. Looks like lots of open water south of the bridge, eh? Hope to see some fish...

I'm in the Concord area- not a bad ride- especially with a big cup of coffee :wink:

I like the Counterfeiter - Have had good luck with it, and it's a beautiful fly. You can find the recipe in Leiser or the Stewart/Allen book. Here's some I tied:

Thanks for the info- those are good looking flies, and the nod to Carrie Stevens is a nice touch. I'll look the recipe up and try a few. Do you have a size preference? About a number 4 seems right, based on what I've seen in the shops...

I like the Gray ghost, I know it is popular and not to original but it works!
Also flies like maynard's marvels, pumpkinheads, ten feather smelts, joe's smelts and frost's blue smelts are in my trolling boxes along with many other classics and originals. The best part of trolling for salmon is the variety of flies that can be used to imitate exactly one form of forage.

copper and gold mooseluk wobblers aren't bad either :D
