So I will start the report from the Second Annual (maybe?) Saltwater Get-Together, feel free to just add images to this post if you want.

My alarm went off at 2:45 A.M., but it wasn’t that hard to get up and get out the door. I was up a little later then normal the night before tying some flies, which I ended up not even using for this trip. They came out nice, so I am sure I will put them to good use later on when I find some Bass! Speaking of Bass, they were hard to come by!

Lowwall, Natefish and I were there at 4:00 A.M. to fish the last few hours of the outgoing, and boy was it outgoing! I fish at Hampton Harbor often, but this is the lowest low tide that I have seen in a long time. Within the first 30 min., Lowwall and I were into some small bass, and Natefish hooked and lost a jumping Shad. I ended up using a size 2 Clouser minnow, Olive and white to catch most of the fish today, and good thing I had it, or I would have missed out on all the Shad! Eventually several others showed up and everyone was hammering the Shad (forgive me, I don’t remember everyone’s names).

Lots of people ended up leaving, and that left Natefish and I in the Harbor fishing a strong incoming tide, and just as they left the fishing started to turn on for me. I managed to catch a few more small bass and some more bronco Shad.
We tried to fish the inner Harbor but got skunked, so we headed north to Odiorne. Hiked out to the Jetty and it was looking really good out there, strong wind from the east made it difficult to fly cast. Natefish forgot to bring his stripping basket, so I loaned him mine while I threw a 6” sluggo (hey, I would have been fly-fishing if I had a stripping basket). Turned out to be the fish of the day for me, a fat 21”!

My fears of High seas and weed were all for nothing. We were treated to the good side of Newengland Weather. Not Hot, Not To Cold, No Wind. Arrived at 4AM with Solid and Nate Fish.

Buckchuka better watch out in your big fish quest, this Natefish is going to be a force to contend with in the salt. He had already been fishing all night in the great bay area and was rearing to go all day.

We got some schoolies when it was still dark, all Shad after that. I had a flounder follow me in a bunch of times. Started dredging the bottom to try to catch one but all I caught where crabs, lots of crabs. In all the striper fishing was non existent, the Shad saved the day.
Here are some of Steve H Trophy’s, If I had a heavy Spinning or conventional rod I would have live lined one of these shad.

Got to meet Steamtrain and SteveH little Brother (Figuratively Speaking) what did they feed those guys?

I was talking to a guy (Rich, maybe ) wielding a 2 hander out there, He fish’s it in the surf and up in NB. He was a little away from the group and I was pestering him all morning. Real nice guy! I assumed he was from the board and wanted to make him feel included. Must have thought I was a major PIA and a little weird that I introduced my self as Lowwall, lucky my handle is’nt Killer or something like that!. On the way out SteveH introduced him self , and mentioned the board , he finally had enough of the name convention weirdness and wanted to know we were talking about. Hope he chimes in know that he knows we are here.He is from Manchester and Has a lot of knowledge on Cranes beach and public waters in NB.

Chime in and Welcome Aboard!

Had a Great morning followed by a long the afternoon. Was my first of many Dance recitals I had to attend! Have to build up that fishing capital some how!

Hampton is a great spot and I am sure it was a just an off day but next year I vote we head to either Cranes or Odion Point/Berry Brook and build a lunch in. We got to do this more often for sure.

Great report and sorry I couldn't make it up, wound up working Saturday but did hit the coast Saturday evening around 6 or so with the fish crew. Saw a few fly guys in our travels but never saw you guys. Ended up fishing all night, racking out for a couple hours on the sand, and doing it all over again at first light Sunday. Fished the rest of the day up and down the coast. Slow everywhere until we found a batch of bigger fish! Persistence ended up paying off and I landed a small keeper! Pretty pumped right now after losing so many big fish this year. Shad and bunker everywhere.

Great report solid. I am now officially obsessed with striper fishing.
