Sorry folks, not too much to report from this weekend. I would love to tell you that I stuck another 32” bass, and that Nate did the same, but it didn’t happen. This is not due to a lack of effort, Nate and I have put in more time in the salt this past weekend then I would like to admit! We did get into some smaller fish, but the action was spotty, and inconsistent.
Still being pretty excited from last weekends fishing, I decided I needed to tie up some night fishing specific flies for this weekend. After work on Friday, I headed out to the local craft store to pick up some fly tying supplies in an effort to conserve some money. I got what I needed and headed to Stone River for the remainder, only to find out they close at 6 p.m.! Not a big deal. I slept in awhile Saturday morning in preparation for a long night of fishing, headed to the shop around 1:00 to pick up the rest of the supplies. Spoke with a guy who I have seen several times before (Bugchucka’s buddy) and told him what I have been doing. He gave me some insight on some spots to check out. I spend lots of time (and $$$$, I never leave without spending at least $50!) at Stone River talking with pretty much every employee who works there; great shop and I feel blessed that I live so close! They are always willing to give some great location information, even when you don’t ask!
So I get home and I bang out a half a dozen flies; pitch black Deceivers, olive Deceivers and a few random “NateFish Special” poppers. Threw all my gear in the truck including the freshly tied flies (epoxy dried in the truck on 101e.) and was on my way. Saturday night was the most productive of the two days we fished, but slow like I said. Sunday, as we approached the area we were planning on fishing I thought to my self “Ok, conditions are perfect, water looks perfect, and tide is perfect, get ready for some fish!” But no, nothing! I actually got skunked! Luckily Nate got into a couple smaller fish, but that was only because I let him fish in my spot. This was by far some of the best looking water that I have fished so far this year! I actually don’t really care that I didn’t catch any fish, I love fishing the conditions I fished today, pounding waves crashing all around me, wet wading to the rocks that nobody else dares to fish from.
Not sure what was going on this weekend but I sure hope it doesn’t continue. This coming weekend I will be at it again, but this time I will be heading out of state with Nate in search of some quality fish, thanks to the advice of the Stone River crew, and I can’t wait to go!
