Was up at Lake George NY last weekend. Went there when I was a Kid. It is exactly the same, Wax museum with Frankenstein out front. Glad something’s don’t change. I had my pontoon boat packed and my fly gear ready to go. There are a ton of Artificial only ponds , hike in ponds and rivers to fish in this area. I was planning to do my usual Fish in the Am ,Wife and Kid at the pool, hit the amusement parks and other stuff PM. Arrived at Check in time at the Great Adventure Lodge, Indoor water park.
Park
This is a great winter getaway but My Daughter talks about this place daily so I had to get her there for a Fix. Check in at 4PM, she looses her mind. Right to the pool. 9:30PM I notice some red stuff near her chin. Chin split wide open! Probably been that way for hours. She was sucking it up to get maximum pool time. So off to the Doc’s for stiches. No More Pool this weekend. No more fishing for DADA either.

So I suffer though a Day at the Great adventure amusement park. I noticed a flier for the Adirondack museum in the Hotel ,

that is where we would go next we decided. It is a hike from lake George but though some real nice country. I really am going to make a point of getting to know this area. Tons of water and not to many people around.
So we do all the exhibits, Soap Making, Clothes Washing, Paper making. All the skills a good hillbilly should have. All of the exhibits were interactive to. Good time. I saved the boat museum for last, They have boat building for kids, we did that. They had someone onsite building a White Pine Guide boat. (16 foot wood boat that weighs 46LB! ) And tons of boats. They allow Photography so I snapped a bunch.

Enjoy Boat Fans!

The only thing prettier than a wooden boat (canoe, sailboat, etc) is a bamboo rod.

Thanks for the pics

The Adirondack Guide boats are absolutely delightful pulling boats. A friend of mine has two original boats at his "camp" in the Adirondacks. When I go up I like to get one of them out for a row. What a great design.

Nice pics! I had the pleasure of fishing from one this spring. A friend has one that was made some time in the twenties for his grandfather. The boat was refitted a few years ago. Aside from being a bit tippy when getting in it was a true pleasure to fish from; sorry I didn't get to row it.
Of course, being from Maine, The Rangely boat is a personal favorite.

I visited the museum a few years ago and was very impressed! Enjoyed the rustic gazebos and log cabins that they had dismantled form the local estates and rebuilt on site. They even had a couple very old double ender Rangeley's on display. Think about the guides who had to haul those things around thru the woods back in the day in their wool clothes. No thanks! Thank god for kevlar and gortex. I'm with Bill tho. I love my rangeley boat it's the best platform for two guys to fish from. I'll take a pic this weekend and post it

those boats look incredible... I now have a new place to visit.. as with Mtn Angler the rangely holds a special place for me, and as a matter of fact.. Just got one from a client of mine who just so happened to have one sitting in his barn... the thing is gorgeous.. now just got to go get it...

Good stuff. That blue Y-stern on the wall behind the 3 guide boats, man I wish I had plans for a boat like that a couple years ago.
