What should I know about purchasing Simms waders?
If i use my exact size measurements does Simms plan on giving you room for heavy socks and warm clothing or do I need to by a size larger to get a comfortable fit which alows me to easily climb a steep bank or add warm clothing?
My new Bean waders sprung a leak after 5 times on the water with them. the fit is great. Bean will replace them at no charge but I am concerned I will only be back with another leak in the next pair.

Any advice guys?

Go to Beans and try on a pair. Bring a pair of socks the ones you would use if you were fishing in the fall or winter months. Bring your boots also and make sure you are comfortable in them. For what we pay for these things make sure your getting the ones you want, not what some sales man or another fisherman is telling you is good. Bean sells Simms waders and the best part of Bean is if something goes wrong they will repair or replace and your not paying anymore for the waders, except for the sales tax.

It is good advice but it appears my size requires a custom fit job. The local Bean's store doesn't carry a wide selection. I was there not long ago. If I lived close to Beans in Maine I would do just as you suggest just to see if a size they have fit. They didn't think so when I spoke to them today. The foot size just isn't large enough.

In the mean time Beans is sending another pair. It may just give me time to find exactly what size is correct for me in the Simms G3.

Years ago I would get a pair of RedBall boot foot waders that fit well and lasted 2 full season even when I fished daily. They cost me around $100.00 and were very little trouble at all. At the end of two seasons I replaced the felt and used Aqua Seal on any seams that leaked and I was good for one more season. They were not pretty but it doesn't matter. No wader is going to make me handsome any way.

You might be under estimating those G3's, after all most of their models can't cast.

I agree with Caddisfly4,

I bought my Simms at LL Bean for that exact reason. I have the older "classic guide" model, not G3 - Have had them for 4 years with no problems at all.

I have two pair of Simms waders. The first pair is the Classic Guide and I just bought a pair of the G3's. My body type according to their sizing chart is an exact Medium. But I had to get a Medium King in the Classic series because they ran a bit tight. They were a Christmas gift from my wife who had a field day with the sizing because we just went through an episode of my getting "portly". Somehow my saying that the waders ran small only added fuel to the fire.

But I recently bought a pair of G3's, at a SUPER price, that fit like a glove in medium, and I have added a few more pounds since I bought the Classic Guides. My buddy at my local fly shop told me that Simms had been getting a lot of calls on the sizing charts and they have since done a better job with the fit.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I received a replacment pair of waders from Bean. It didn't cost me a thing so I might as well try them. If they also leak I will take my money and go elsewhere for a Simms G3 as Bean doesn't have a Simms wader with a large enough foot.

What a season it has been for me as far as equipment!

It is never again on a 4 piece rod. In variably I find after a good fish or hours of casting one or more of the pieces are out of line by just enough to anoy the heck out of me.
St Croix makes a 9ft 2 piece #5 in the Ultra Series with the new ART hoop reinforcment process. perhaps I would better appreciate that rod.

I have been waiting since early April for my Hardy 9ft #5 to be repaired and returned from England. By the time I get it back I most likely will have yet a second replacment rod to fill the void while it is on vacation for repaired.

It is just a bad year for my equipment. A fellow smacked his rod into my saltwater St Croix last week and damaged it. It got to St. Croix yesterday. My Winston 9ft #7 has a crack under the wrappings of the male section. It should go back to Winston but I need it now! I don't ant to send it yet.

I am pleased with the Chota #14 boots I got! At least some purchase went well this season.

A few days ago I stopped at a farmers house before fishing the Connecticut River in a location I have had permission to access for the last 20+ years. I hadn't been there in for a time so I wanted to stop and say hello etc. I was denied access! I was asked if I belonged to some group. I told the woman no I fish alone. she said people were steeling and someone wrote an article about the river and told people they could drive into the farmers field park the car and fish without asking permission. Does anyone know what this is about? Did a group of guides perhaps set up access for themselves and get others locked out? Another location was double gated and posted. I spent over an hour getting to the river.
