I was recently reading an article somewhere about fishing the Upper Andro and the "Brown Owl Special" was mentioned as a local favorite. There is nothing online for info. If somebody could share some info or maybe a picture that would be great. I'm assuming this pattern is somehow connected with the former Brown Owl Camps on Magalloway Stream.

The Brown Owl is much like a Hornberg, can be a streamer and a wet fly. The shops that I have seen it at show it tyed on a small streamer hook size 10 - 12. With a gold tinsel bodie, golden olive buck tail wing, and a teal flank feather tyed in "tent style" with grizzley hackle palmered in for the collar. Give it a try....

Trouthunter,

Do you remember what shop you saw them at?

PW,

I think you're talking about the fly invented at the Brown Owl Camps on the Androscoggin River. I have the recipe and photo at home and will get it to you tonight unless someone can come up with it before then.

Yes, That's the one. Does it have a jungle cock eye?

Any fly can have jungle cock eye, but I don't believe the original pattern calls for it, but then again it's been a long time since I last looked at the fly or pattern.

We got 3 sizes in at Riverstone, they are tyed in the way I described. They do not have jungle cock eyes....

Yea, I don't think the pattern calls for JC. The one's at Riverstone sound like the one I know, but am not sure it's the "exact" same thing. If not, it's very close. I'm thinking the body is an embossed gold tinsel. I'll still post the pic and recipe tonight.

I was able to pick up several at LL Cote after I heard a fellow at the Errol Cream Barrel sing it praises. HOWEVER, I didn't have any luck with it.
