Magazine Suggestions?

So I am new to the sport and I feel like I need a magazine subscription now. Not sure what to get though. What magazines would you recommend? Why? Thanks.

It really depends on the individual. This is one thing everyone has different opinions about. I'm the type of person who tries to chronologically keep track of every best fishery at any given time. This means I like to get reminders of whats going on. On the Water does an awesome job at this. I strictly flyfish but even though they discuss all types of fishing, they do an awsome job. Fly Tying magazines are nice to have on hand and sometimes I find interesting new techniques. The major all around publications are O.K. but they don't offer me much more than entertainment. The new Eastern FF mag is good but it's I think a quarterly pub. Fish and Fly has great photos. There's just only so much information before they start getting redundant...

For someone fairly new...you have everrything to learn and just about all of them will provide some benefit. I tought myself to tie anf fly fish and spent a ton of time with my head buried in those FF mags. And of course, we're always here for ya!!!

American Angler hands down. Fly Fisherman is good but far too many ads as compared to articles. As far as localized information, you're going to get more information on this website than any magazine. Hawkeye is a good local hunting and fishing newspaper too, and I think it is free.-V

I used to subscribe to bunch, and like bugchucka suggests, after a couple of years most seem to cover the same ground over and over again. The one that has stood the test of time for me is Fish and Fly.

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Journal, for me at least, seems to have the best content as far as fly tying patterns, fishing techniques, etc, along with some travel stories with out the sensationalism found in some of the other mags.
