I have a Wt Fwd sink tip Line in my gear box and dont know
weather it is a 4, 5, or 6 wt.

Does any one know how I can tell - It casts OK on both my
4 and 6 wt rods (I'm not a real good caster as you probably suspect).

If it casts good it really doesn't matter what weight it is. If you really want to know, you can probably go to a fly shop and they can tell you. By weighing the first X? feet of line they can tell you. Since it is only casting okay, try it on a 5 wt. I have found sink tips to be irregular in casting while over-under lining a rod. F and S lines usually aren't so picky. Good Luck!

Umpqua makes a line scale that sells for about $12.00. It's very accurate and useful to have.

Most graphite rods will accommodate lines one weight above and below their ideal weight. I would say it's a 5wt line. A 6 weight line probably wouldn't cast well with your 4wt rod and a 4 wt line probably would not cast well on your 6 wt rod.
