I am planning on doing some flyfishing on the Pemigewasset (between Franconia-Plymouth area) in the next few weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions on best areas to fish and nearby campgrounds? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

There's a campground right on the river in Thorton ( I think). I camped there once and although it's literally right off 93 it wasn't too bad and it is on the river. There's a nice deep run just below the bridge. You could also stay at one of the Forest Service campgounds a little further up or on 49 going into Waterville Valley.

There is also a State or Federal camp ground on Tripoli Road exit. Follow the signs. It's also on a Trout pond.

The Campground on Tripoli Rd at exit 31 is Russell Pond State Park. My favorite campground in New England. All sites are first come- no reservations- but they are spacious, spread out and clean. Last June we had 6 bears in the C.G. so be sure to keep ALL food in the car. It's a ten minute drive to the Pemi and 1/2 hour up to Profile or over to Upper Hall Pond. Great spot! Uniformed cops started patroling the area on foot last year to make sure it's quiet at lights out (10pm ??). They are totally inconspicous unles your breaking the rules. Once upon a time I loved camping and raising hell til all hours... but now a full day and evening fishing, make some dinner and I'm out like a light.
