Wow! They don't get much easier than that pattern! So how would you fish this pattern? Just under the surface? Slow retrieve? What do you think he used for a hook? Looks like it could be a 3 or 4x streamer hook, size 10-12?

I used a size 8 streamer hook, fish very slow, deep (in ponds), wiggle it up the water column. I have only fished this pattern in ponds.

This is a great fly that is used up in the West Branch of the Penobscot area. I am heading up their on Saturday and will definitely be bringing some. I also have had best results deep and slow. I use my sink tip line and wait for the action.
