I must confess that in my youth was a spear fisherman and frequented Block Island for the very same reason this guy was there. I never shot one that big but my companion did shoot a 30lb+ bass near the Old Harbor jetty. Actually it is a great sport! I stopped because of shark sightings. I got a bit hairy.

Maybe there's a lesson here from which we FFinNH members can learn. Maybe it's time to build a hybrid system? Could we maybe make a speargun / flyrod? Imagine shooting a clouser into the lip of that sucker, getting back up to the surface, and wrestling it on, say a nice light 8wt.? That's my plan. Any engineers out there, send me your proposals for such a system.
