I came across a gentlemen that was using these and it seemed like a pretty ingenious idea, but are they effective for fishing or only effective in being able to change your fly quickly.

I like a loop knot for the final conection, same for conventional gear. When I troll hardware I use a swivel 5 ft from the bait and tie the bait on direct instead of using a snap with swivel.
I do use tipet rings and micro swivels when nymping. I don't think they spook the fish anymore than split shot nad save time when rigging.
I've used those for years fishing for brook trout with nymphs or other wetflies/streamers. On the occasion that I've use dry flies with them, they don't stay dry very long as they tend to sink such a light fly pretty quickly. I'm not sure how they would hold up to larger fish like LM Bass or larger lakers/salmon/brownies.
They are a bit finicky to use especially since my eyesight isn't what it used to be, plus I'm a bass player and the callouses on my fingertips makes it hard to hold them when putting on or removing a fly. I find using a forceps gently holding the snaphook works for me. They do crush pretty easily if you get too crazy with the forceps.
They make different sizes but I've only used the smallest ones made. Cabela's carries them in their store in Scarborough but I haven't been able to find them in their catalog.

Thanks guys good info. For a second I was trying to figure out how big of a bass you were catching if it was giving you callouses on your fingers, and then it clicked!! lol. Well I'm curious to here if anyone's ever caught and landed a hefty fish on these..not that I only catch huge fish, but with my luck it would be the one time I had a snap hook on and it couldn't withstand the battle

:mrgreen::mrgreen: I didn't even think about that! LOL...But yeah, I've caught lots of bass, big ones too, but that was when I lived in Memphis for a year or two...they know how to grow them down there. I wish I'd tried to catch a few of those big ol' sow bellies on a fly rod...that would've been a treat.....or not.
