Hi, I've got a friend who can only fish Pittsburg next weekend, the WEEKEND of the 4th. He will be up there by himself and This will be his only time up there. I'll admit I'm mostly a trophy section, beloe 2nd lake and the inlet to Lake Francis guy. I'm looking for suggestions, not your secret spot..but suggestions of where my friend from Atalanta might try on such a busy weekend. He's not afraid of a mile or two kike but does not float tube..so ponds are out. Please feel free to email me at Scoop39@comcast.net if you prefer not to post here. Thanks for any help.

If he is willing to be on the water at first light, he should be able to find decent fishing, without crowding, on the trophy stretch. It won't last long, however, and will be quite crowded by 9:00 AM. Another option is the "middle water", interesting fishing, but a bit of a hike. He should park off River Road by the old logging road, (not the Carr Bridge Road), and hike in from there, once again, getting an early start. Another option is the CT River below Pittsburg, ( I always liked that stretch by the Clarksville Btidge). also, Perry Stream, Indian Stream, and the Mohawk River, although all of these tend to be low and warm by July.
To be honest, this is absolutely the worst day of the year to fish there. I never fish there on weekends, and tend to avoid the month of July altogether.

hate to disagree, but I think this weekend should be a great time to fish up in Pittsburg. Hex hatch on Back lake. There are boat rentals available. Rivers should be at good levels and trophy section should also be good. Murphy dam and below the bridge in town are also good spots. I will be heading up for this weekend and staying for several days. Looking forward to some great fishing.

Silky,
I've fished the 4th in Pittsburg and didn't have as big a crowds as I did this past Saturday. I'd have no problem fishing the 4th weekend there if there weren't so many place with great Hex hatches closer to me.

Has the hex hatch statrted at Profile? Went to Sky last night ,saw a couple hexes but not in full swing yet. Hitting the hex hatch at Back Lake is a bonus. I agree that there are places closer to fish the hex.
Looking forward to fishing in Pittsburg this coming week. Hope to report back with some good fishing stories.

Knock 'em dead, pal. Well, not really dead, but have a great time in Pittsburg. :D Nothing happening at Profile yet, but soon, very soon. The same goes for Sky Pond.

And, overall, the fishing was enjoyable.
Yes, the trophy stretch was as popular as ever --- come to think of it, I fished the trophy stretch exclusively for 9 days ... hmmm? wonderin' about that.
Anyhow ... here's an oddity.
I was at Junction Pool with Angus Bozeman and my wife early on Wednesday morning (6/29)... and we were getting crowded by 6:30 a.m.
Oddly, On Sunday morning (7/3), I got to Junction Pool even earlier (anticipating a crowd), and had the pool to myself. I killed on 12+ Brookie for my daugher's breakfast, cleaned it, took it back to the cabin, and returned to Junction Pool ... and it was still available. Zero fishermen. I had the pool to myself from, oh say 5:00 to 8:30; when I left the hole.
Last night (7/4) was fabulous dry fly fishing below first dam.
We tried the hex hatch on Back Lake a couple of nights, but did not see much activity.
One last thought ... my wife, on that Wednesday morning, caught and released two nice 16"+ brookies (as well as some rainbows). Woo Hoo.

Just got back from Pittsburg. Had a very successfull trip!! I had some of the best dry fly fishing in a long time. Fished mostly the trophy section, most of time in the Carr Bridge pool. There were plenty of fish. My partner, Trish had a good time also, picking up three salmon, in the 12-14 " range. They gave her some pretty good acrbatics. Also fished the junction of the Conn. R. and Indian sream. NICE piece of water and gave us some nice dry fly opportunities. Didn't do well below Murphy dam. Water temps was 59. Water level went from 400 cfs to 200. I thought I would do well, but not so. And the crowds were not there. Usually fished alone at the Carr Bridge. And Juction Pool also. Over all was a nice trip.
