I'm coming up next week and am looking for some new spots to fish. My wife has planned a shopping trip to N. Conway, so I'll take the time to do some fishing. In years passed I've hit the Saco and Ellis and visited the Swift to be discouraged by the human hatch. Are there any other recommendations on where to spend some quality time? Not looking for that "secret spot" (unless someone wants to share for a day), but some place that I can have a good time and not run into a ton of people.

Go up to Gorham and find the MacDonalds. Park in their lot and fish the Androscoggin right behind it.

sorry for being super knowledgable on the area, 'bout how far from N. Conway and what would I be able to expect for species and insects? Are there any smaller streams that we can try?.
I remember someone saying something about a stream below Mt. Washington thats worth a try. Any info on that stream?
Thanks

Ya know, with the North Country Angler being right there in North Conway (http://www.northcountryangler.com/) my advice would be to either contact them now or when you're in the area drop in, Bill and Janet are great people and would love to help.

Fishing hoppers on the Ammonoosuc River should be real fun right now. I like the stretch west of the State Police barricks along RT.302 . Lots of pull offs going back east to the Mt. Washington area. Catch Profile Lake just right (no wind) and you can wade/shore fish along the road and the beach at the top. Have fun and bugs? bugs are our friends...

The Ammonusuc, and the Peabody rivers run off of Mt Washington and provide pretty good fishing

Speaking of the Peabody, I had a lot of fun there last fall fishing down from the bridge that accesses the Dolly Copp campground off 16. A 2-wt fly rod and small BWO dries brought a bunch of fiesty rainbows to net. Be stealthy as the water is gin-clear and focus on the deeper pools and the several spots where cut banks or blowdowns provide shade and cover. These spots are where these fish have held over since the spring stockings.

Close to North Conway. Try the Wildcat River in Jackson, go past the EagleMountain House on the Carter Notch road and fish it any where it is close. Lots of Small Native Brook Trout (3 to 7+ inches) but fisty. You can fish this with sneekers and shorts (no Boots) and use small Elkhair Caddis patterns, size 14 and 16. These fish are not fussy and are a blast to fish for. Some are suicidle and others will try just once if they miss. Please be kind and release most if not all you catch.
Other mountain rivers that are also good are the Peabody up stream from the Auto Road, Rocky Branch off of Jerico Road (from 302 west of Glen just before you cross the river) and East Branch of the Saco. You may catch a few stocked fish but for the most part these are wild fish and very pretty fish.
Hope you have fun and please post your results here and at my web site as well. www.lfp.loonsecho.net

Peabody Stream.... Is that the stream that follows along side 16 if I were to drive from N. Conway to Mt. Washington? I remember a "gin-clear" stream there.
Thanks everyone for all the input. New Hampshire fishing is still somewhat new to me. This will be only my 3rd trip there and only my second in that area. Hopefully I'll make back up to Pittsburg this fall.
