I received an email from a member of this board with the following quote from an email he had received:

JULY 5, 2005 . . . Hi Jay, for those who didn't hear about it yet, there was a fish kill at Archery Pond this weekend, of only Rainbows. I walk around the pond and found upwards of a hundred fish up a long the grass edge and the brook was also littered with them. And one of the boards on the dam {the lowest one} broke and now the pond is draining and last night it was about 60% drained. Thought you could forward this too the club members. Thanks Dennis

The "club" is Manchester Fly Fishers Association. If you live in the area it's a great organization to be a part of.

This makes me sad ... and angry.

Thank you for the update.

Has F&G been notified and do they have a plan of action?

The F&G stance is that the heavy rains that we recieved earlier that week likely effected the pH of the Pond, and thus the less tolerant Rainbows. This should not have effected the brookies, as they are more tolerant of lower pH. As for the dam, new boards are in place, and the pond should be fine for fishing.

Fished Archery Pond Sunday night. The report I received was that there were upwards of 140 rainbows that were killed. The kill as you mentioned was of a high acidity. And the dam had breached releasing most of the water. But when I was there the pond was full and the fish, mostly brookies, were very active. But as usual, there were had to hook.
got five however.

Look for the tan car with NH Veteran plates & say hi. It looks like there will be a bunch of us there.

Does anybody know what happened to the guy in the wheelchair who used to always be up there with the regulars? Used to see him there all the time before the Army.
