Traditionally, I have always built my own computers. Three months ago, when my last one was on the fritz and ready to be re-built I decided to go the easy route. I decided to buy a pre-fab computer from a box store. I made the mistake of going to Best Buy and buying a Gateway. The computer runs fast but shuts down intermittently during use of IE or any other program. I contact Gateway support who inform me I have to ship it down to Texas to be fixed. I must pay for the shipping and insurance. Okay, I can buy that I suppose if they are going to fix it. So, $57 later, the PC is shipped to TX two weeks ago. Fast forward to this morning. It's Back! YAY! Not so fast. I turn the PC on and within two minutes, boom. Same proble, it keeps powering off without warning. Great. I pack it back up and call tech support, conveniently located in India. I explain to them that this is an exsisting problem and would like to provide them with the RMA number I was provided before so I can bring them up to speed. They want no part of that. They want me to start from the beginning. I lost it. Explained that I just spent a $1000 on the PC two months ago, spent $57 to ship it back and receive it with not only the same problems as before but it has big scratches on the top of it. (Add insult to injury)

Long story short, I am shipping it back now, for a second time, so I will be without a PC for ANOTHER 2-3 weeks.

NEVER again will I buy a Gateway.....
NEVER again will I buy a product without knowing where their tech support is
NEVER again will I buy a product with a warranty, only to find out that it's worth junk

End Rant.....

Take it back to Best Buy. Better yet, if you put it on a credit card, see if you can do a charge back.

Last week I spent a total of 8 hrs on the phone to the "techs" in Mumbai trying to fix my Dell. When they finally realized they could not figure out a fix I was transferred to a tech in Texas who knew what the problem was and had the thing up and running in about 10 mins.

Quick update. I received the computer back on June 3rd. I opened the box and guess what, IT WAS NOT MY COMPUTER. Here it is, two weeks after that STILL without a computer. I have been in contact every few days and they keep stating that my computer is being shipped back to them so they can check it and ship it back to me. I am at my whits end. I called today and they still don't have it. I have been without my computer for TWO months now. I am strongly considering taking them to small claims court. I will be calling my credit card company tonight to see what they say. What suggestions do you have? I want to be awarded something for the shipping costs and TWO MONTHS worth of no computer, time on the phone etc. This is absolutely crazy. I am so pissed I can barely type right now.

Get a Mac. Any problems after that you can call and/or take it to the Genius Bar.

this is what bothers me when you buy something and it has that big sticker saying not to return it to the store but ship it to manufacture. lots of wasted time. hope it works out for you
