The contest winner will be chosen at random from among all who submit a correct answer to the following question:

Who first wrote of the practice of enticing trout by a small movement of a dry fly, just "the sudden inch"?
a/ Samuel Camp
b/ A.J. McLane
c/ Leonard Wright

The winner receives an original Wm Mills & Sons "Pink Lady" (approx. #8, dry, longshank Sneck) ca. 1920, suitable for a bell jar. Probably manufactured in England. Also, to complete the picture, a W&M Spanish Gut fine tapered leader. I'll post a picture.

Leonard Wright called his technique for putting action on a dry fly 'the sudden inch,' and it seemed simple on paper. Instead of casting upstream, Wright suggested casting down and across the current with an upstream mend and giving the fly a slight upstream twitch as it neared a rising trout.
