The sandeels here have reached three inches long. This has brought stripers into the shallow flats and along the beaches.Yesterday I got over thirty fat stripers with two exceeding 30 inches. They were boiling on sandeels being forced out of a small estuary by the tide.Black clouser was the ticket!

Wouldn't Brown on top and white on bottom be better?

You would think so,but black is the easiest color for stripers to see.It stands out from the rest and is taken.

Awesome job Salter, when you say here I'm guessing you mean just South of Portland? When are you going to break down and buy a camera????!!!!!!

Its funny but I've never carried a camera while striper fishing. To much other stuff to lug around I guess. Plus I hate wasting time posing for photo's when the bite is on.You're correct in that I was south of Portland.Biggest beach in Maine to be precise.Got eleven more nice ones this morning on the high tide. They were taking sandeels in the wash, not fifteen feet off the beach,in very shallow water.

I believe him, stripers go where the food is most vulnerable. I've seen trout do the same thing during hatches.

I didn't mean to be accusatory. I've heard that at night, bass and pike will come into shore for baitfish. I've never seen it during the daytime.

They were feeding in the surf last night.Went out around eight and fished till ten.Didn't catch many.Three to be exact but they were all over thirty inches.Big black muddler(seven inches long tied on a 5/0) fished on a shooting line, retrieved slowly.

Could be a good weekend to be in that area, good options north and south of OOB. I believe there maybe some new regs in place for the beach at Old Orchard; not for your new suit, but in regards to fishing near swimmers. I'm not sure but I know other posters here would have the right info. Fun place to be with the family.

You shouldn't be fishing when people are swimming anyways, look at the times of day salter is catching fish.

Nate is right most of the time. But if you can find a beach with no swimers ( Not Easy Up here, Easier Down The Cape) and fish right behind the wave break line you can catch fish any time of the day.

Also can sight fish flats the same way, again i have done that done the cape not up here. Years ago I was at the beach and you could see bass rolling in the sand to kicking up sand ells, A closuer fished slow like a ruber worm got the job done.
