I would like to propose a fly tying get together for members of FFinNH. I can easily accomodate 12-15 tyers in my barn/office. I see this as a chance for us to put faces with names and have some fun. Beginers are more than welcome. I have a couple of extra vises and I'm sure other do as well. If you think this sounds like fun let me know. I'm off on Sat Nov 26 so i'm thinking 9-4:00 ish. I live in Sanbornton right off 93 so it's easy to get to. let me know if this sounds like something you want to do.

Nov 26? Well, I should just about have a belly full of deer hunting by then (maybe), so I'll be sure to mark my calendar for that day. Having never tied my own, it could be a very interesting and useful event. Heck, just making the acquaintence of others from this board would be well worth the effort. Thanks, Birddog.

Sounds like a good idea. Unfortunatley, I will be heading up to the the Salmon R. for the steelhead. Keep me mind for the next fly tying meeting.

I think that's a great idea but the Saturday after Thanksgiving is one spent with the gun in hand! I'd love to do this if you host a second time. Tom's tying nights at MRFS are something else i want to get to this winter.

I'd suggest the 26th for the following reason. There is no date that will match up with everyone's schedule. That being said, if your intention is to have at least an annual gathering, then the Saturday after Thanksgiving is going to be an easy date to remember and plan for. TMHO

I guess we'll stay with the 26th. I thought maybe more could attend if I changed the date. So once again any one that wants to get together and tie is more than welcome to come. Even if you've never tied before and want to try come on over were happy to have you. If you post a reply I'll send you directions. I'm very close to exit 20 off 93

Seven of us gathered at Birddogtwo's awesome sportsman's getaway. The seven of us tied flies, told lies, ate pizza, and drank beer, not necessarily in that order. Here are a few pictures:

I notice Paul was the one with all the empties around him!

Looks like it was a good time had by all. Wish I could have made it. Maybe next time.... So what'd you all tie up? Any secret patterns divulged? Details....I need details! Looks like BD2 has a great setup....I'm jealous

Not only does he have a great set up, he's a great host as well. Actually it was a great time. We all tied pretty much what we wanted to and shared what we tied with the others around the table. So I now have flies from all those guys. I'm thinking I'll document each of them and hang on to them. Never know who's gonna end up famous. :D B-T-W, there were two other tables, capable of holding 4 to 6 guys each, so next time let's see if we can pack the place out. That is, if there is a next time, that's really up to BD2.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I'd be happy to have you guys over again. Any one have dates in mind?
I told Mark an repeat it to all of you, we don't need to be formal about this. If 1 or 2 people want to get together your more than welcome if I'm around. It will be a long winter...

Would you guys mind having a complete novice show up? I used to dabble but even that was a very long time ago! I'm sure I could borrow my brother's old Renzetti and some of his materials.

If I can go I will bring an extra vise and tools for someone to use.
I had a great time at the last tying conclave and actually tied up 8 mickeey finns.

fessiewig

Steve,

No problem on the novice. Marcus1951 never tied a fly before the 1st tying conclave.

MJ
12-01-2005, 07:03 PM
Geeesh, Fessi, couldn't that fact have remained a 1st tying conclave secret? (However, it would be nice to have another "novice" along sometime - someone who could share my pain.)

Looks like you guys had a great time tying together! I know the winter can be very long here, so if you would like to get together again this winter I would open the shop for a Sunday tying conclave. Sunday is usually closed in the winter months so we shouldn't be bothered by customers. Let me know if you would like to attend and we can work on setting up a date. I'm thinking late January or early Febuary. I will build a soup for lunch and feel free to bring your favorite libation. I can fit 12 people.

I would also like to mention that I will be starting the thursday night tying classes on Jan 5 2006. 6PM - 8PM. You can view details on my web site. I supply materials and hooks. I will post the patterns each week so if there is one you would like to learn come down and join us.

Welcome Marcus to our addiction of fly tying! It will be fun to see if you can control yourself. I think for most of us we thought we would save money tying our own flies. Lots of years and lots of patterns later, I know I'm out of control!

Hope to meet many of you, Tom

Marcus,

Yeah, like your flies looked like they came from a novice. Everyone was commenting how fast you picked it up. I guess BD2 is a really good teacher.

Tom,

Sound like a great idea. Figure out a date that's good for you, Tom, and publish it here. Folks can sign up by responding to your post.

MJ

Fessie, not only is Birddogtwo (Dave) a good teacher, but undoubtedly he is, as well, a cordial host and generous individual indeed!

Tom, please, I doubt my wife can tolerate me adopting another obession. (In the past bowhunting and more recently ff itself have taken their toll.) I am determined to tread ever so lightly around you experienced tiers. I plan on exercising controled and reasoned moderation. (Ahhhhh....that is possible, yes?) :?

How about Feb 12 at Mountain Road Fly Shop. I think there is an ice fishing derby on the 5th. Either date works for me so let me know what works best for you and we can go from there.

Tom
