We were saddened to learn today that after a long tough fight, Jack Gartside lost his battle with lung cancer. He was in bed resting comfortably, attended by friends, with the first snow of the season falling silently outside.

Last month I was reading about the gartside gurgler, and some of his other flies. This is too bad.:(

I use sparrows all the time and I love them, truly a loss.

Maybe using the flies he liked to tie & use, maybe his memory lives on? It will for awhile, then fade away.

I remember a tying class I took fromhim several years ago. Since then I always have a few gurglers with me when fishing warm water. He was a real character in the best sense of the word.
