A friend showed me a knot a few weeks ago that will replace the Improved Clinch Knot in my scanty repertoire. From now on, when fastening fly to tippet on a wet, streamer, or parachute dry, I'll be using the Cleave Knot (a.k.a., Cleave Figure-Eight, Timber Hitch,etc.). It holds tightly, doesn't kink the line, is strong, simple, could be tied in the dark, and leaves a small knot and short tag.

See Cleave Knot (http://eis.bris.ac.uk/~cckhrb/fish_kdia.htm)

Best regards,
Reed

Thanks. I've been trying to remember how to tie that knot and not knowing it's name made it impossible to look up. As we thought, not a new knot.

Reed,

I have had occasion to use the new knot you showed John and me up at Profile. I do believe I'll be using it all the time now. :)

A picture is worth a thousand words. :D:D:D

Thread the tippet through the hook eye, and form an overhand knot. Then twist the hook through 180° anti-clockwise, forming a second loop. Pass the end through the second loop. Moisten and tighten the knot.

Also known as the Cleave Figure of Eight Knot.
