Ok Folks, here's the official thread tfor the 1st Fly Swap.
since its the 1st one for this site, lets do a pot luck fresh water swap, any fresh water fly you want to tie.

just post below to join.
to prevent multiple entries of the same fly, just indicate (ballpark it) what fly you will be tying.

Limited to the first 12 people.
I'll PM you with my address, it would be nice to have the flies by Feb. 15, 2006, hopefully giving everyone ample time to tie. If we dont get 12 people by Jan 15, 'registration' will end then, to prevent too much last minute tying for everyone.
Refer to the Sticky for the specifics of the swap nuts and bolts.
Hope that covers everything!

To start it off, i'll be tying Shop-vacs (a small beadhead Pheasant Tail variation)

Count me in. I'll be tying a Golden Olive Herron.

I'm in with a peacock serendipity. Thanks Petegas for taking this on!

Please count me in. I guess I'll tie some upland cadis. Although heavy for turbulent water it's a great realistic imitation of a zebra cadis (alderfly) on the Andro. I'm going to try posting an image but I'm not sure if it will work to both poor photographic skills and equally bad computer skills

This will be a first for me, but I'll give it a whirl. My R&D guy (John Viar) says this new streamer is working for him on Winnipesaukee and Squam. It has been very successful on rainbows for me. It's called the Copper Shrimp. I'll tie it in casting sizes.

I'll tie my version of a size 14 beaded hares ear..I use Calf tail as my tail. Count me in. Contact info: Sean Smith NH guide Scoop39@comcast.net

I'm in! This should be fun. I have done a few swaps b4 and had some good results. Lets see......i guess I'll do some P-WD-40's. These and a variation were killer last June in Pittsburg (NH)

I'm up for it. Never participated in a swap, and I don't know why it's taken so long>

How about a biot/cdc midge emerger in a nice small, hard to see size?

I'm in too. I'll be tying my favorite fly...bead head black leech.

I think this makes me #11, so count me in too. First time for a fly swap for me as well. I'll do a variation of an orange wooly bugger (aka wiggly tail) that has been a reliable fly for me.

Ken, I didn't intend for my post to sound the way it may have been interpitade. As you know I'm just starting to tie my own flies. You mentioned earlier that you thought they were ugly so I was just playing on your statement. I sent you a PM earlier I hope you read it.

Merry Christmas

Steve,

No worries, I knew just what you meant! And it is ugly but one that I will show you how to tie and you will be thanking me for the rest of your life!

I'm hoping to get up to Tom's on the 5th...how about you?

Cheers,

Mine showed up yesterday, definitely one of the better swaps I've ever been in! Ranging in size from Ken G's midge to Ken B's black leech. I don't think I've ever seen a prettier streamer than Owl's Roost's Copper Shrimp. Just a great bunch of flies, thanks everyone and especially Pete for putting it all together.

Picked up my package today. There are some interesting patterns there. "flytire" thats a neat card, what a great idea. BD2 that's a nice alderfly, I'll challenge you to a dual come late June, I've got a pattern or two myself for "macronema zebratum".

There really is nothing like receiving a box of flies in the mail........Christmas in March! Thanks so much to all of you for your great patterns. I'm looking forward to using them soon.

I have a question for Owl's Roost.............Would you please PM me or post the recipe for your pattern? I spent most of last night looking through tying books trying to find it and came up empty.

I think I will be catching quite a few salters with that pattern so I want to tie up a bunch.

You guys ROCK!

I did the Golden Olive Heron

Hook: 2X Dry Fly
Thread: Golden Olive 6/0
Tail: None
Body: Golden Olive Dry Fly Dubbing
Hackle: Golden Olive Saddle Hackle (see note)
Wing: Lemon Wood duck (see note)

Note: Tie in hackle tip first, after dubbing body palmer hackle to wing tie in position. While palmering hackle be sure to keep stroking hackle barbules to the rear of hook so the hackle flows rear-ward. Select a lemon wood duck long enough to extend just beyond the bend of the hook. Fold the outsides in and under. Tie in with 3 wraps, then pull stem to adjust length of wing. Finish tie off and create head.

Owl's Roost

Sorry folks but I left on Thursday to go to North Carolina. Here is the materials for the Copper Shrmp.

Body: Embossed copper tinsel

Throat: 4 strands of Copper Flashabou, then yellow buck tail, then blaze orange schlappen in a beard style

Wing: 4 or 5 peacock herls, topped by orange buck tail, with 4 Shrimp colored Whiting American Rooster Saddles

Cheek: Dyed yellow mallard flank

Eye: Junglecock

Head: florescent orange thread

Truiteman you won't find the pattern anywhere else because it's a new creation I came up with last season. As I said before it has been a good streamer in Winnipesaukee and Squam. Fall landlocks liked it pretty well as did the rainbows.

Birddogtwo

Upland Caddis
Hook #14 dry fly hook
Body Brown superfine
Hackle coachman brown
Wings I used cathedral pheasant feathers but any upland bird will do hence the name. remove fluff from the feathers leaving quill intact. Use flexament and lightly coat 2 similar sized pheasant feathers and pull between thumb and index finger to sweep the barbs back. Use more flexament and tent the wings with quills crossed. When dry tie wing assembly to fly cut to length and shape. trim quills to desired length and color with green marker.
