Squaretail

Anybody see the news clip this morning of opening day for trout in the state of Missouri??? Talk about shoulder to shoulder. Must have been 100 people all fishing the same pool below some falls. Now I know why the place is called "Misery". The only thing that I've ever seen that was close was the Salmon R. in Pulaski, NY. This was worse, however.

Well squaretail I had the Misery of living in Misery of 2 years. It's awful. BUT, the fishing there is actually really good!! Don't read too much into that whole opening day crap. That is one of there Spring Parks, all of the weekend warriors come out for a day (it's probably the only day of the year they come out). They stock this little section of river with thousands of fish so anyone with some line and a hook can catch a fish.
That is a natural spring that flows out of the Ozark Mnt. The tempurature of the water at that spring parks stay a steady 45 degrees year round. If you were to go down stream from there, there is a flyfishing only section which is designated a trophy trout section. You could go there on beautiful saturday afternoon in the fall and you might see one other person on the water. I consistantly pulled 16" rainbows out of there. I did catch one 22" brown out of there. In my 2 years there that was my best fish. There are a few other flyfishing only trophy trout rivers in the area. No one ever fishes them though.......I guess it's just to tough, so they need to go to the spring park instead, where they can catch a guaranteed 12 incher.
