 Agreed! Don't they know all the good that could have come with that hackle? An amazing likeness of Steven Tyler tho.

Nothing surprises me when it comes to what people will do with there pets. Halloween costumes and feathers in the hair is nothing compared to http://www.neuticles.com/.
I can think of a bunch of analogies but guess I'll just leave that one alone

Now that's one I've never seen before. What were you searching for when you discovered that site Marc? Ha ha!
Ha ha indeed! I'm glad no-one told my cat about that website. He was looking for something for 19 years . . .

I said something to my wife about this topic and she saw it on the news. This is the following link.

Here we go! Hold on for the ride and hope the fad dies soon.
PS- Don't chickens have mites? If so, if the distributors can process the feathers without killing the mites and then package them as hair products for a short time, we may win this battle sooner than later.

Well that worries me a little bit since a lot of the patterns I have seen on YouTube involve Hackle. I want to get started soon and that was a material that I thought would use immediately. Guess probably not though.
We can hope as the video points out there will be a shortage until next spring, but by then it is entirely likely it will be something else beads braided in the hair with a leather strap or something like that.
Fingers crossed!

I have watched this hair extension thing with some amusement from the beginning. Needless to say it has provided a needed boost to sales for many small shops and some, smarter than me, have made a tidy profit from it.
Our shop, along with Stone River, Eldridge Brothers and Hanover Outdoors, has been quoted in the Union Leader and the New York Times. After the Times article I received a lot of calls from friends kidding me about my notoriety. A couple of days after the article I got a call from a woman, who claimed to be from New York City, who went on to say how outraged she was that I would sell feathers to young ladies to adorn their hair. She was, of course, from PETA. I was polite, but dismissed her before she could continue with her tirade. So it does not surprise me that the national organization has got on the band wagon. It also doesn’t surprise me that they lied about the conditions that Whiting Farms raise their livestock. I sincerely doubt that any member of PETA has ever visited their location. The local PETA nut case has harassed me for years sending me e-mails, leaving messages on my phone and notes on my door.
Shortly before I logged in here I received a call asking if we any saddles from another hairdresser. We have been receiving one or two calls almost every day. I doubt that the fad will last much longer, but for those fly tiers who are concerned about the availability of saddles I would guess that there will be a shortage for some time to come. The good news is that there are plenty of necks available, which in my opinion are superior for tying quality dry flies.
