Some of you may have noticed on some of the ME forums that Don Bastian a professional fly tyer is lined up for some presentations and classes this week at a couple of ME locations. Don was one of the expert fly tyers at this weekends Spring Fishing Expo at Bean's.
I thought I'd let you all know that W.S. Hunter has scheduled Don for a day long class this Sunday at their Concord location.
Don is probably best known for tying classic wet flies. His instructional DVD, "Tying Classic Wet Flies" was released in November 2004. Many of Don’s classic wet flies, streamers, and traditional drys are regularly featured in Art of Angling Journal. Hundreds of Don’s flies are also published on the Internet at
http://www.rareandunusual.com/troutwetflies.htm
Don is the featured author of the Ray Bergman biography in "Forgotten Flies",(April 2000) published by the Complete Sportsman in Westborough, MA. Included are 499 classic wet flies in the Bergman section, and 265 additional streamers and bucktails in the chapter titled, "Checklist of Streamers and Bucktails."
Don has 42 years of fly fishing and tying experience. He has been a commercial fly tyer for 12 years and is member of the Whiting Farms and Regal Vise pro teams, a member of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, and has been a Pennsylvania Fly Fishing guide for 16 years.
I've only met Don recently as I've been lucky enough to have helped him line up his events while he is here staying in Maine. A true gentleman and pro who is very personable and loves what he does.
As of this morning there were 3 seats available for this Sundays session in Concord. If you are interested give Mike Sicola a call for the details!
Thanks all. I'll be seeing some of you on the water soon...
