I am new to the lakes region, having moved here from Concord NH, after living in Northern NH most of my life. Was wondering if anyone fishes tributaries to Winni or any of the other lakes in spring for fish chasing smelt? Was hoping to get an idea of which ones to try and when, as well as what to expect. Thx in advance for your help, and keep up the good work on this long overdue site!

Try silver lake section below the dam in lochmere and the Merry Meeting in Alton although thats crowded in the early season Really just about any trib will produce when conditions are right

A good spot to just quickly get a line in the water is right in downtown Wolfeboro where the Smith runs into Winni. I've been keeping an eye on it and the smelts haven't started to run yet so the fishing probably won't be that good right now. If your looking to catch rainbows or brookies there are plenty of little ponds all over the area that get very little to no fishing pressure.

Isn't it kinda hard to fish that spot in Wolfeboro without a boat or float tube?

It's really not that hard to fish. The public docks are right there plus the pier where the Mt. Washington pulls in. Also the business around the mouth of the river give people access. It does get hard to fish on the weekends, but thats only because there are so many people.

If u want, I would love to tag along with u this spring to some of those ponds in the area. Although Im olny 15, I would love to have a fishing buddy to hit some of those ponds in a tube with. If u have ever noticed Halls pharmacy in wolfboro my dad's girlfriend owns that so i do fish the smith a little. Maybe I'll run into u there sometime this year, I will probably be ther this weekend, so if u see a kid in a green vest or a blue Maineflyfish hat with Pemmi on the back its me, dont be shy either, I'll be the one catching all this fish, lol :)

It would be great to have someone to take fishing, besides the dog. I don't think I'll be fishing in Wolfeboro this weekend. The weather will be nice so I'm guessing it will get crowded. But if you see anyone with a big black lab trolling out in the bay that would be me.
