View Full Version : Newfound Lake
Planning a family vacation at Newfound Lake in July. Whats the best bet for fishing at this time of year? Hoping to pick up some smallmouths on the fly.. any good (general) tips on where to go and what to use? Will have access to a boat, so we should be able to cover some water.
Thanks!

Squam has smallie fishing that is supposed to be excellent.

Tom, Newfound has lots of good fishing - if you're looking for Bass and other warm water species - stick near the islands and shores. Stop by Charlie's Fly Tying in Bristol and ask him when you get there - he can give you an updated report. Or send an updated post in July before you head up and I'll see if I can some more insight for you.
Thanks for the tips, I'll check in as we get closer to go-time :)

You're located in Newburyport so I hope you'll be chasing Stripers on Joppa Flats this summer!

p.s. My In-laws live in Hebron which is on the north end of the lake - my father in-law has fished the lake for Lakers and Landlocks for over 20 years. So don't forget that Newfound is a very good Salmonid fishery. I will be up there fairly often this summer so let me know when you come and maybe we can sync up and I can bring you to fish some of the smaller and more productive streams and rivers in the area. Then when I head down to Joppa we can fish down there together. Melting snow and rising bugs!!!
Sounds like a deal!
I've been fishing the Plum Island area for about 9 years, the last 6 by boat. I just upgraded in December and will have a boat in a slip for the first time this season.. can't come soon enough!
