I was stationed there and was one of the last active duty to leave when they closed "Paradise" down.  I left in late 1990 and the ponds on base were some great fishing spots. I have a disabled vet sticker now and have base access. Is Pease open for fishing? I know the NH Guard is still there. There was some great deer and duck hunting, too. Is any part of the base open for hunting and fishing?

I suspect there would be fishing, at least, on Pease Trade Port, but if there is a section still military and you still have access I'd contact the base commander.

Now that I think of it, I'm a vet, can I go too?

If I ever get back up that way, which I'm hoping to this summer, I'll let everyone know. If there's fish still there, they have to be hosses by now. If I remember right, there's 2 ponds that held trout and one that had bass and a bunch of bluegills in them, and a few pickerel. Could make for some fun fishing.

Years ago I was the secretary of the Pease Sportmans Club. Now I go to Pease to ride my bike. (Am retired from everything, LOL). The feds have taken over the area that includes the three ponds and no one is allowed to visit the two lower ponds. I inquired in their little house about entering the closed area and they said the only way I could do it is when they have their annual cleanup and I participated as a cleaner. Peverly with trout and the pond next to Great Bay with the giant bass is closed to fishing. Right at the ammo area the feds have erected a barrier and you are not allowed thru it. I do not know if they allow fishing in the upper pond. They have a path to it. Also they have a path along the fence down to Great Bay where they have a deck you can stand on to view the bay. In my day we had built a small building for duck hunters where they could go to get warm. Also there used be a three story house up on a bluff overlooking the bay we used as a club house. We used to raise 5,000 pheasants to release on the base. I have taken the walks on the paths and have seen as many as seven deer in a group. Where the deck is on great bay I used to fish for striper schoolies (5 to 7 pounds) on the incoming tides. I would say that now over 90 percent of the area is closed to the public.

It sound to me like a very small "club" has taken over the fishing and hunting privileges there.

What a waste. Some of the trout in the upper pond must be huge  by now. I spent a whole lot of days on the ponds fishing and all around the area hunting pheasants and ducks. A friend and I both ran labs. We'd start off with just the two of us in the morning and by the end of the day there'd be at least 10 guys hunting over the two dogs. My son caught his first fish there at just about 3 years old... 3 nice brookies. Woodcock everywhere, deer, a moose or two.... just plain paradise, now gone. :(
