Default Intro

Hey guys--I've been reading the forum the last few days and really enjoying it.

I 'began' to learn to fly fish about 11 years ago with some folks that I know living in western Montana. Been trying to get the knack for it ever since.
I've been fishing the rivers and small streams here at home in NH with my dog(s) and having a blast. I can almost taste wading a free stone in an early morning sun this spring. Seems like spring doesn't come soon enough these days.
I think I need to organize my gear and flies--again.

Just for giggles the wife, dogs and I drove up to the Newfy last Sunday--she was flowing right strong and I didn't fish, but I sure am gettin' antsy.

I think I'll just sit back and read a while.

Thanks for the welcome fellas.
I'll see if I can take some pictures this year.
The wife and I bought one of these nifty water proof point and shoot cameras, so I'm looking forward to it.
I've think I've taken one or two pictures while fishing.
I fish alone, so it just hasn't been a thing to do.
I've got tons of pictures of my bird dogs, though.

I'm from here in NH.
I know folks in the Bitterroot and learned from them and been out there to fish just a few times. Once I spent a whole week just fishing around by myself wading. The other two or maybe three times we floated various sections of the big rivers.
I've fished the main Bitterroot river in many places, the West fork, the Clark Fork River, the Blackfoot, Rock Creek and the Big Hole.
Those places are within casting distances of Missoula with the exception of the The Big Hole River.
Rock Creek was the most fun for me as I drove a good ways up river and found myself very much alone.
Rock Creek isn't all that different than some water to be found in NH.
Well--accept for those Cutbows, wicked steep ravines and spooky thoughts of big bears.

I haven't been back to fish for some 8 or so years.

Welcome to the madness of this online insane asylum. Indeed it does seem as if spring is so far away. It is getting close, I can almost smell it. Before anyone says it, no I didn't just fart. I can still smell the berries or leaves or something fruity along the CT river when I fished it for the first time 2 years ago. I envy your MT trips. I can only imagine what it's like out there!

Well-there is no denying that its beautiful and there is some fine fishing in Western Montana, but as funny as it might seem--I prefer it right here in New England. Floating the big water is fun and when you get into the fish, it can be down right amazing, but I found myself looking for smaller water. You know, tribs and wee branchings and such.
I'm just a hack and don't want to come off like something I'm not (I'm not very good), but every fly fisherman ought to experience a 'Salmon Fly' hatch at least once.
Its kind of like science fiction.
