Default The need to learn ?

Can anyone give me some recommendations on good books or CD's to learn how to tie flies. I live in the Monadnock region and haven't been able to locate any local classes on tying flies. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok..I can't help you with tying flies..cause I have never tried it....but I know a fly shop in Bedford along rt101 that is not too far from Bennington...and I know they offer classes.

I don't know schedules etc..etc.

Here is their website give them a call. Everytime I go there they are very helpful with tips..flie selection etc...good shop.

Sorry we don’t live closer. But, to answer your original question Skip Morris’s book and tape are just about the best that I know. Ted Lesson and Jim Schollmeyer the guys who wrote The Fly Tier’s Benchside Reference, have a new beginners book similar to the “Reference”. I just got a quick look it the other day looks a winner. It is possible to teach your self and a lot of good tyers started this way.

one of my favorite books for beginers is "Production Fly Tying" by AK Best......dont be scared off by the title, its a great book that gives exacting step by step instructions for different style of flies and has an extensive description of tools needed.

a great book for a neophite or a veteran tyer.

"Tying trout flies" by Gary Borger. Its one of the videos that helped me get started

You mean to tell me there is no one in the Bennington area that would be willing to tie with the fella once a week until he gets the hang of it????? What's this all about if we can't actually help each other?

Im a little over an hour away if you want to travel I'd be happy to get you started. I belong to the enthusiastic as opposed to good tying school. Send me a PM for details if you want

you posted what I'd been thinking. Hows your season going? It's looking like a pond year to me.

Hi Dave,

Same as everyone else . . . crappy. Right now I'm kinda stranded because my car needs a left front wheel bearing. It's on order, but I can't get the car into the shop until Thursday so I'm laying low. After that, look out! I don't care if I have to drop a line off Noah's ark.
