Default Bow Power Plant

Howdy all, wondering if anyone has fished the warm water area near the bow power plant. I've been thinking about going down there but I am not familiar with the immediate area. Is is possible to access that water from shore or is boating the only way to get close to it?

I've fished it many times. It's not possible to fish from shore. You definitely need some type of watercraft. It's about 1/4 mile upriver from the launch to the discharge area. You can do it in a small boat/canoe with an electric motor (or oars/paddle) if the flows on the Merrimack aren't heavy. Otherwise, a gas outboard would be recommended.

It is a plain fact, however, that downstream fishing with a non-imitative fly (lure, in the British sense) does not mix comfortably with upstream imitative fishing...I'll stay out of the argument about whether this technique is really fly fishing. In terms of interest, it is for me ahead of most downstream fishing and spinning. And I've already opined that spinning is better than staying at home with the television set.

Good fishing there, i fish there alot during shutdowns(spring/Fall) . Working at the plant gives good access, Boat seems to be the way to go. i have seen all types of watercraft there most people do well out in front. not sure why you would need a driftboat to fish it properly? maybe lowall could explain.

Default You don't need a drift boat

Ziggy, just an inside joke, First time I met SteveH was fishing out of a driftboat at the bow power plant. The drift boat purchase was a disaster, I tried to power it to use as a skiff for general fishing when not drifting the SR, did not work out.
I may have the answer to the driftboat\ skiff problem solved. It will give me something to write about during the winter month’s atleast.
