Bridgeman: A friend sent me a printed copy of a post you wrote about bass fishing on the Androscoggin, in which you describe superb angling from drift boats, including one piloted by a Dave Mason. Do you recall when that was written, and would you say the bass fishing holds as much promise now as it did then? My Andro focus is trout, wade-fishing with nymphs or dries, but I do encounter smallmouths (4-to-8-inchers with an occasional 10- or 12-incher). On two trips targeting bass (Errol to Lake Umbagog, casting streamers from a kayak), I caught few fish, though all were decent and one was photo-worthy. I've read your Andro bass post several times, and no matter how long ago you wrote the piece or how much the fishing might have changed, I'm determined to make at least one pure-bass trip this season, launching from the Bowfinger park and kayak-fishing to the next takeout. Thanks for your informative reports. -- Dave Cohen, Gloucester, Mass.

I'm spoiled due to Alaska trip. I did post photos of both Brookies and Alaska salmon in the fishing reports.

Hi Norm, good to hear from you. I figured MM would be down. We need some rain badly. I have been traveling far north for the last month. Landlocked salmon on the brain. All three states are producing some nice fish. Over in Burlington a 32 inch 14 pound fish went through the trap. Makes MM look bad. Most likely going to fish it the last week. If the game is in the road again this year I will only show up if the water goes up. Let's keep in touch. Send a few photos of the brook trout.

    All the very best,
