I get the animosity toward the bait guys that don't follow the rules. Every waldron's dugout worm container I pick up adds to it.

I also get why fly fishing suffers from a rather well-deserved...

Likely it was. But the conversation wasn't about that small sliver of FFO water, so his comment was as contextually incorrect as it was unappreciated.

You clearly goofed, resulting in a comment...

With all the talk about sinking lines I wonder how many people would fare better with a spinning reel with light fluorocarbon or mono when trying to fish deep. I've fished the sinking lines in ffo...

In that situation I'd try something bright, like an orange bugger. If that didn't work I'd try something flashy like a tricked out golden retriever. Brook trout aren't typically very picky unless...

True, that is deadly.

Another deadly method is a sink tip with a short leader to a white headed zoo cougar type streamer that gets taken down by the sink tip, hovers, then starts to float to the...

I think a lot of the talk about spooking fish with line is overblown. Yes, it's bad to put your fly line on top of a fish because it will spook them a very large portion of the time, but that's...

The water temp is still on the chilly side and no big hatches yet hurts, but the truth is that holdover or wild trout in the majority of NH rivers simply aren't abundant. It'll come alive in many...

I got my digital temp gauge at Walmart. Was $7 or 8 if I remember right, in the kitchen section. Black plastic handle with readout and folding metal probe. For meat I think. I've tested its...

Thanks. 40 was what I initially had in mind.

Follow up question... generally how much better is the fishing in same water with temp say in the high 40's or 50 vs when it's 40? Just your ballpark...

Exploring remote waters north of the notch... input

Howdy all,
I'm going to be exploring and fishing a lot of the most remote waters, both streams and ponds, from Milan to the top, and wanted input on water temp. What would you look for as a minimum...

Another vote for 6' 2wt. Fiberglass rod. So enjoyable to fish. Overlining with a 3wt line makes all the roll casting weighted flies even easier.

I agree. They'll be fine dropped off that bridge.

Worrying a bit less about what the other guy's doing is what tends to make better people better.

Age of materials isn't really an issue. So long as it's been kept dry and there's no mildew or rot. If it's just a musty smell then air it out and it'll be fine to use. Good luck. :)

Not so sure about the bigger tippet helping much in these cases. A bad knot isn't going to hold much better in thicker line. Kinda reminds me a bit of the phenomenon of guys opting for bigger rifles...

I'd wager it's as much the fault of bad knots and modern super fast action rods as it is tippet size. You can put a heck of a lot of pressure on a fish with 6x on a rod of moderate flex.

I'm skeptical of just about any conclusion that points to overfishing or overhunting being the primary reason for decline of many fish and game animals. As fisherman and hunters we're the only thing...

North Country Angler

Went to stop in to North Country Angler yesterday to pick up a few things on the way home and the building was empty... Not sure what to make of that, but I guess they either shut down or moved.
