Default Stocked Brook Trout seem small

The stocked Brook Trout seem small this year. Someone told me that the hatchery had a problem with them and that is why they are on the small size. Has anyone heard anything about this ?

I drove by brickyard pond in Exeter the other day on my way home and saw a guy hold up a stringer of brookies that must not have been any longer than the palm of my hand.

Kind of sad that that's what our hatcheries produce.

I guess it depends on where you fish. It's not a fly only area but i caught 3 between 14-16" in a pond. Missed a few around that size and saw another person with one about 14". The majority are around 10 - 11" but they aren't all small.

It may depend on which hatchery they are coming out of. I know the ones on the seacoast and when I fished Ossipee were all smaller than usual.
